Sony launches surgical video recording system

Sony has launched a new system designed to capture and record full high-definition surgical video at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery annual meeting, according to a company news release.
Surgeons will be able to pair the Sony MCC-500MD medical video camera and, pending 510(k) clearance, the HVO-550MD medical recorder with a DVD drive, according to the release.
“In cataract surgery, color and image quality are imperative for the surgeon as well as reproduction of images for educational use,” Evan Krachman, marketing manager and new business development manager, Sony Electronics Medical Division, said in a company news release.
The MCC-500MD medical video camera features new-generation image sensor technology with improved low-light sensitivity for maximum flexibility with HDMI, HD-SDI (1080P), S-video and composite connectivity devices.
Users can simultaneously record to an internal hard drive, USB drive or other portable drive. The 500 GB internal hard drive stores up to 85 hours of HD video with access to previously recorded cases.
