Nanovision Group plans to start commercialization of its technology and product lines in Europe and Asia later this year, according to a news release.

The company’s strategy was announced at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery annual meeting in Boston.

The Russian-based company plans to market new-technology IOLs, refractive surgery equipment and the first independent network of eye banks in Eastern Europe. Nanovision has developed the concept of a universal femtosecond laser for cataract surgery and refractive surgery, and nanotechnology designed to improve ophthalmic drug delivery and patient adherence to treatment, the release said.

Nanovision is organized into four main areas: research and development, IOLs, lasers and eye banks. Lasers are slated to be the first products commercialized internationally in September.

The company’s Visum 500 and Femto-Visum femtosecond lasers are already being marketed in Russia and China.

Nanovision’s hydrophobic and hydrophilic IOLs are manufactured with nanotechnology and feature increased optical fields with proprietary edge designs. Drug-delivery systems will be tailored to each lens. Lenses will be made to allow for insertion through microincisions as small as 1.8 mm, the release said.
