FDA clears Nidek specular microscope

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued 510(k) clearance for a new specular microscope from Nidek, according to a press release.

The CEM-530 Specular Microscope acquires images of the corneal endothelium and provides quick and easy analysis, along with auto-tracking capabilities, the release said.

The device includes paracentral specular microscopy as well as peripheral imaging, 2-second automatic analysis, automatic indication of the optimal image, 3-D auto-tracking, auto-shot, a tiltable touch screen and a built-in printer, according to the release.

The CEM-530 can integrate with most electronic medical record systems without the need for an additional computer or software, the release said.
