Donald C. Fletcher, MD, has been awarded the Secretariat Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology in recognition of helping others learn techniques to live with low vision and contributing to international low vision missions, education and programs, according to a press release from Envision.

The Secretariat Award, one of the highest honors given by the AAO, is presented annually and recognizes ophthalmologists for special contributions to the AAO and ophthalmology. Recipients are selected by the senior secretaries and secretaries in their respective areas and approved by the AAO board of trustees. Nominees provide service and effort above that of other volunteers and contribute through organizational, management and/or administrative activities, the release said.

Fletcher, medical director of the Envision Vision Rehabilitation Clinic, is a frequent speaker on issues involving low vision and regularly conducts or participates in sessions at Envision’s annual conference, according to the release.
