FCI Ophthalmics has introduced the Malyugin/Cionni capsular tension ring, a variation of the Cionni capsular tension ring from Morcher, in the United States, according to a press release.

The ring is preloaded on a disposable injector called the EyeJet, Type 10G. The unit comes with a capsular tension ring affixed to the hook of the injector with a clamp on the injector to keep it from moving until the package is opened for use, the release said.

The ring has a curved shape at one of its open ends, which allows it to slide along the equator of the capsular bag, eliminating the risk of perforating the capsular fornix, the release said. At the curved end, the eyelet is used to suture the ring to the sclera for secure fixation, which offers an alternative to capsule supporting hooks.
