Ultrasound biomicroscopy demonstrates reliability of glued IOL technique
Glued transscleral-fixated posterior chamber IOLs did not cause significant IOL optic tilt affecting postoperative vision, according to a study.
The case series included 46 eyes of 42 patients examined with ultrasound biomicroscopy to evaluate inadequate capsule support of glued transscleral-fixated PC-IOLs. Mean postoperative follow-up was 24.6 months.
Of the 46 eyes, eight showed optic tilt and 38 did not. Eighty-five of the 92 haptics examined were in ciliary sulcus, and seven were in the pars plicata.
No significant correlation was seen between ocular residual astigmatism and IOL position or optic tilt and postoperative vision or cylinder, according to the authors.
