An interactive video game that uses automated computerized distance visual acuity and stereoacuity testing has good reliability and validity compared with standard tests, according to a study.
The retrospective, observational case series included 102 children between the ages of 3 years and 7 years. Distance visual acuity and stereoacuity were measured with the computerized test, and these were compared with measurements obtained with the Snellen visual acuity chart and Distance Randot Stereotest.
Distance visual acuity with the computerized test had high test-retest reliability compared with the Snellen chart, and stereoacuity with the computerized test had high test-retest reliability compared with the Distance Randot Stereotest.
The computerized test may be useful in community-based vision screening or in conjunction with standard tests for distance visual acuity and stereoacuity in preschool-aged children, the authors said.
