Abbott acquired Vistatek, an ophthalmic surgical distributor, expanding its position in Brazil’s vision care market, according to a news release.

Vistatek, based in São Paulo, was Abbott’s distributor of cataract and laser vision correction technology, the release said.

The company will join Abbott’s current holdings in Brazil. Abbott Brazil employs about 1,400 people in manufacturing, research and development, logistics, sales and marketing with primary locations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
