Sulcus fixation with optic capture yields nearly optimal postoperative refraction
Sulcus fixation with anterior capsulorrhexis optic capture resulted in refractive outcomes comparable to those obtained with in-the-bag IOL placement, according to a study.
The retrospective study included 58 eyes of 58 patients who underwent phacoemulsification with posterior capsule rupture and sulcus fixation of a posterior chamber IOL.
IOLs were placed in the sulcus with optic capture in 24 patients (41%) and without optic capture in 34 patients (59%).
The mean difference between theoretical target refraction if the IOL had been in the capsular bag and the achieved refraction in the sulcus was +0.34 D in the optic capture group and –0.4 D in the group without optic capture; the between-group difference was statistically significant (P = .0002).
