Small-aperture corneal inlay improves near visual acuity in presbyopic, post-LASIK eyes
A small-aperture corneal inlay improved near vision in presbyopic patients after previous LASIK, according to a study.
The prospective study included 223 eyes of 223 patients. Patients underwent implantation of a Kamra inlay (Acufocus) into a femtosecond laser-created corneal pocket at a depth of 200 µm or 250 µm, at a minimum of 80 µm under the LASIK flap interface in the nondominant eye.
Mean uncorrected near visual acuity improved significantly, from J8 to J2 (four lines, P < .001). Corrected distance visual acuity was 20/20 or better in all eyes.
Mean uncorrected distance visual acuity in the treated eye decreased one line, from 20/16 preoperatively to 20/20 at 6 months (P < .001).
Spectacle independence and patients’ satisfaction with their vision improved significantly at 6 months, the authors said.
