Victus laser platform granted license for cataract, refractive procedures in Canada
Health Canada issued a medical device license for the Victus femtosecond laser platform, according to a news release.
The license allows the Victus platform (Bausch + Lomb Technolas) to be used for the creation of a corneal flap during LASIK surgery, anterior capsulotomy in cataract surgery, penetrating arcuate cuts or incisions in the cornea, and laser-assisted lens fragmentation during cataract surgery, the release said.
The Victus platform first earned a CE mark in November 2011 and was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in July 2012.
In April, the platform was granted a CE mark for creating corneal incisions in patients undergoing cataract surgery and creating intrastromal channel incisions for intracorneal ring segments, as well as for penetrating keratoplasty.
