Abbott Medical Optics has named David Tanzer, MD, as its divisional vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer, according to a company news release.

In this role, Tanzer will offer medical input for the AMO’s clinical strategy, innovation and business development activities while overseeing medical affairs and product safety, as well as the development and dissemination of educational materials.

Tanzer, who attended Georgetown Medical School, is a retired U.S. Navy captain and director emeritus of the Navy Refractive Surgery Center at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.

He has authored or co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on a number of ophthalmic topics and has held faculty positions at Loma Linda University, University of California-San Diego and the Uniformed Services University.
