I had the pleasure of recently attending the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting in Portland. I enjoyed connecting with many colleagues and friends, including Devin Gattey, MD, with whom I did a charity trip to Vietnam, and Yujen Wang, MD, who was a co-intern with me many years ago.

I even managed to spend a few hours enjoying the city and visiting the Casey Eye Institute, but the highlight of the meeting was the content of the presentations.

David Brown, MD, from Houston gave a great series of retina lectures, explaining the use of the various anti-VEGF medications in the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and venous occlusive disease.

Michael Siatkowski, MD, made his neuro-ophthalmology lectures interesting and educational. And while his quiz on pediatric neuro-ophthalmology was tough, I will now certainly remember the association of the incyclotorsion with skew deviation.

Prem Subramanian, MD, showed some amazing videos of orbital, skull base and neurological surgical procedures and reminded me just how expansive ophthalmology can be.
