Akorn net income drops to $35 million in 2012

Akorn reported net income of $35.38 million in 2012, down nearly 18% from $43.01 million in 2011, according to a company news release.

Net income in 2011 included a $13.4 million gain related to the sale of the Akorn-Strides joint venture.

Consolidated revenue in 2012 totaled $256.16 million compared with $136.92 million the previous year, while total operating expenses rose to $79.94 million from $46.42 million.

Revenue in the fourth quarter was $71.52 million, up from $42.63 million in the same quarter the previous year. Net income for the quarter was $8.81 million, up from $5.73 million.
