Allergan launches preservative-free lubricant eye drops for dry eye

Allergan is expanding its dry eye treatment line with a preservative-free lubricant formulation of the Refresh Optive Advanced brand, according to a company news release.

“Refresh Optive Advanced Preservative-Free is a lipid-enhanced tear that offers the comfort of an aqueous tear, but works layer by layer to stabilize the tear film, delivering just enough lipid to relieve symptoms without causing a lot of blur,” Joseph Vehige, OD, Allergan’s senior director of Consumer Eye Care Research and Development, said in the release. “By stabilizing the lipid layer, tear evaporation is significantly reduced.”

The over-the-counter product, which can be used with prescription dry eye therapies, is available in 30-count single-use vials or in a preserved multi-dose formula, according to the release.
