Straylight can be supplementary indicator for capsulotomy referral in PCO
Straylight is a valuable supplemental indicator for capsulotomy referral in eyes with low posterior capsule opacification severity, according to a study.
The prospective study compared 240 pseudophakic eyes with posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and an indication for capsulotomy with 99 pseudophakic eyes without PCO.
LogMAR values and logarithm of the straylight parameters were assessed before capsulotomy to predict significant improvement after the procedure.
Study results showed that there was the most improvement after capsulotomy in eyes with more impaired visual field parameters before the procedure and that visual function deterioration was linked to PCO severity and not PCO morphology.
“In cases of slight PCO, straylight is more valuable than [visual acuity] because of its susceptibility to low PCO severity scores,” the study authors said.
