Jim Mazzo has been named the chairman of the board of directors at AcuFocus, according to a company press release. Mazzo retired as president of Abbott Medical Optics at the end of 2012.
Mazzo spent more than 2 decades with Allergan in various senior executive-level positions before he took over as chairman and CEO of Advanced Medical Optics when it was spun off from Allergan in 2002, according to the release.
He took over as president of AMO in 2009 when the company was acquired by Abbott and also served as a senior vice president of Abbott until his retirement.
Upon announcing his retirement, Mazzo told Ocular Surgery News, “On a personal level, I want to take my next steps and be able to accomplish some more things like we did with AMO.”
