CHICAGO — The idea behind Carl Zeiss Meditec’s latest product launch is to provide everything that is needed for the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic diseases, the company’s president and CEO said in a press briefing here.

“We offer comprehensive solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic diseases in the fields of cataract, refractive, retina and glaucoma,” Ludwin Monz, PhD, said.

The “new family” of optical coherence tomography products being introduced at the joint meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology includes the Cirrus HD-OCT 5000, enhanced with the new FastTrac retinal tracking system, and the HD-OCT 500, “designed for comprehensive ophthalmic practices, which require essential OCT capabilities and reliability in an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use instrument,” according to a company press release. Both the HD-OCT 5000 and HD-OCT 500 incorporate a modernized OCT platform, with faster processing and an OCT camera system.

A second pair of multimodality products being introduced are the Cirrus photo 800 and 600.

“Practitioners can correlate data from high-density OCT cubes, thickness and layer maps with results from superb color fundus, and angiography images in one imaging session without the need to move the patient,” according to the release.

The company further announced receiving Food and Drug Administration clearance for software version 3.0 of the Forum Eye Care Data Management System.
