Several factors may predict central posterior corneal curvature

The anterior corneal curvaturepachymetry and refractive status of an eye may predict central posterior corneal curvature, according to a study.

The retrospective case series enrolled 117 randomly selected healthy eyes of 117 subjects. Central corneal thickness, minimum corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, anterior and posterior mean corneal radius, and anterior and posterior mean shape factor were measured using a Scheimpflug photography-based device.

Mean spherical equivalent of all eyes was –0.61 D, and mean axial length was 23.91 mm.

Pachymetry was correlated to the anterior-to-posterior ratio for central corneal curvature.

Central posterior mean corneal radius was correlated with the anterior mean corneal radius, central corneal thickness and spherical equivalent (P < .01).

No correlation was found for the anterior corneal shape and the posterior corneal shape.
