Ophthalmic publisher Richard Bay dies at 67

Richard Bay, longtime publisher of Review of Optometry and founder of Review of Ophthalmology, part of the Jobson Optical Group, passed away Dec. 2 after a long illness, according to Review of Ophthalmology. He was 67 years old.

“We are saddened to hear of Rick’s passing. He always had a kind word and a smile for everyone he met — customers, readers and colleagues alike. We will miss his warmth and friendship, and the eye care publishing world will miss his professionalism, integrity and knowledge,” Peter N. Slack, CEO and president of the Wyanoke Group, parent company of SLACK Incorporated, said.

Bay was born Jan. 17, 1945, in Philadelphia and was a lifelong resident of the area.

After starting his career in the mailroom of the Chilton Publishing Company in Philadelphia, Bay rose to the position of vice president and oversaw more than 40 publications, according to Review of Ophthalmology. In 1999, Bay was named publisher and president of the Review Group after the acquisition by Jobson Medical Information.
