Lenstec launches first oval one-piece foldable IOL for cataract patients in US
Lenstec has begun U.S. sales of the Softec HD Oval IOL, the first oval one-piece foldable IOL for treating cataract patients, the company announced in a news release.
The lens, which was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June, is part of Lenstec’s Precision Series of premium IOLs, the release said.
The oval center measures 5.75 mm × 6.5 mm, providing almost 30% more coverage across the visual plane than standard IOLs, according to the release. The larger optic may reduce the chances of adverse effects commonly associated with cataract removal.
The lens can be made in a range of 5 D to 30 D and in non-overlapping 0.25 D increments from 15 D to 25 D.
