Alcon acquires ophthalmic division of SensoMotoric Instruments
Alcon has acquired the ophthalmic division of Berlin-based SensoMotoric Instruments, according to a news release.
Alcon will now have access to leading ocular surgical guidance technology, including real-time eye tracking, automatic registration of ocular imaging, and IOL positioning and alignment guidance.
The acquisition is designed to help Alcon improve patient outcomes in cataract surgery, the release said. The company plans to integrate the newly acquired technology into its existing cataract portfolio.
“The state-of-the-art guidance technology provides surgeons with customization options and automated solutions, enabling optimal outcomes for their cataract patients including underlying refractive conditions,” Sabri Markabi, senior vice president of research and development at Alcon, said in the release.
