Ellex introduces multi-modality YAG laser
Ellex Medical has announced the launch of the Ultra Q microsurgical YAG laser, which incorporates proprietary coaxial reflex illumination technology to treat “floaters,” according to a company news release.
“The Ultra Q is optimized for performing YAG laser treatments both in the anterior segment and posterior segment – making it ideal for the all conventional YAG laser treatments such as capsulotomy and iridotomy, as well as YAG laser vitreolysis for the treatment of floaters,” Ellex CEO Tom Spurling said in the release.
The Ultra Q is indicated for capsulotomy, iridotomy and Nd:YAG laser membranectomy.
“With the introduction of Ellex’s Reflex light delivery system, our ophthalmologist customers can now use the Ultra Q to treat floaters in a medically reimbursable procedure known as YAG laser vitreolysis,” Spurling said in the release.
The short pulse – no more than 4 nanoseconds – and fast energy delivery allow capsulotomy treatment with fewer shots and less cumulative energy.
Ellex launched the product during the joint meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. Ultra Q market release will begin over the next few months, according to the release.
