STAAR reports $90,000 net loss for third quarter
STAAR Surgical reported a net loss of $90,000 for the third quarter, down from a net gain of $77,000 in the third quarter of 2011, according to a company news release.
The company recorded a loss of $349,000 for the first three quarters, down from a gain of $1.2 million in the same period in 2011, the release said.
Visian ICL sales increased 15% in the third quarter to $9.1 million, according to the release. Overall revenue for the quarter was $15.9 million, up 4% from the same quarter last year.
IOL sales decreased 8% in the third quarter to $6.1 million, compared to $6.6 million in the same quarter last year.
The company’s gross margin increased to 70.4% from 68.5% in the third quarter of 2011, the release said.
“The third quarter was a solid quarter for the company despite lower revenue results than expected,” Barry Caldwell, STAAR president and CEO, said in the release.
STAAR’s total operating expenses increased 16% from $9.7 million in the third quarter of 2011 to $11.3 million in the third quarter of 2012.
