Nicox announced the launch of AdenoPlus, designed to help in the differential diagnosis of acute conjunctivitis, in the United States, according to a company news release.

The test, which is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and waived under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, detects adenovirus, the release said, which accounts for as much as 90% of viral conjunctivitis cases and about 25% of acute conjunctivitis cases seen by eye care practitioners.

The four-step test takes about 2 minutes to complete and provides a result with 90% sensitivity and 96% specificity in about 10 minutes, according to the release.

The launch is the first for Nicox since it announced a new strategy of becoming an international, late-stage development and commercial ophthalmic business, the release said.
