Single workstation integrates technologies for evaluation, decision making

MILAN, Italy — The Hoya iTrace Surgical Workstation is capable of processing and providing a variety of information to cataract and refractive surgeons, helping their clinical decision-making process.
“It brings together various instruments in one very complete package,” Kenneth R. Kenyon, MD, said at the annual joint meeting of OSN and the Italian Society of Ophthalmology.
Autorefractometry, ray-tracing aberrometry, Placido topography, keratometry and pupillometry are provided in a single workstation.
“What appeals most to me is that a Placido-based corneal topography system can be operated in conjunction with a wavefront aberrometry system. By simultaneously obtaining this type of data and images, the system is able to determine which of the higher-order aberrations of an eye are a consequence of the cornea, which are a consequence of the lens, and which, in pseudophakic eyes, are caused by an improperly positioned IOL,” Dr. Kenyon said.
“We can troubleshoot problems and make the best choice,” he noted.
The iTrace also has an incorporated toric caliper that is capable of planning precise orientation and placement of toric IOLs.
