Trifocal optic IOL performs well at all distances

MILAN, Italy — A new trifocal optic IOL performs well at all distances, providing 100% spectacle independence, according to one surgeon speaking at the annual joint meeting of OSN and the Italian Society of Ophthalmology.
“All studies on the clinical outcomes of multifocal IOLs suggested that there was a need for a lens with improved intermediate vision. The FineVision IOL by Physiol seems to have overcome this limitation,” Camille Budo, MD, said.
The IOL is made of 25% hydrophilic acrylic with UV and blue light filters. It is injected through a 1.8-mm incision with a dedicated injection system.
Dr. Budo implanted the FineVision lens in 119 eyes and said that all patients achieved good results at all distances.
“None of them uses glasses for driving, reading or working at the computer,” he said. “Distance vision is near 20/20, and patients can see on average J1 at intermediate and J2 at near. A slight decrease in reading performance both at near and intermediate is found in mesopic conditions.”
None of the patients complained of glare and halos, and 95% of them were either very satisfied or satisfied and would recommend the lens to others.
