Iridex broadens availability of noninvasive glaucoma therapy
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — An in-office, tissue-sparing, noninvasive trabeculoplasty procedure based on MicroPulse technology has been launched by Iridex with its green laser system, according to a press release.
The availability of MicroPulse Laser Trabeculoplasty was announced at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting in Chicago.
The IQ 532 green laser system is a versatile platform used by a broad group of ophthalmologists, the release said.
The MicroPulse procedure works by dividing laser emissions into trains of microsecond pulses, according to the release. This allows the physician to better control the impact on target tissues, resulting in less collateral damage.
The IQ 532 system also can be used to treat diabetic macular edema, proliferative diabetic retinopathy and retinal tears, the release aid. The MicroPulse Laser Trabeculoplasty procedure offers the potential to lower IOP in glaucoma patients without additional thermal damage from the laser.
