BIG FLATS, N.Y. — X-GEN Pharmaceuticals will begin marketing acetazolamide for injection, the equivalent of Diamox (Duramed Pharmaceuticals), for ophthalmic indications, the company announced in a press release.

Specifically, the drug is indicated for treating chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma and for preoperative use in acute angle-closure glaucoma when surgery is postponed to lower IOP.

Acetazolamide is a sterile, preservative-free, lyophilized powder, and each vial contains acetazolamide sodium equivalent to 500 mg of acetazolamide, the release said.
