NEWARK, N.J. — Another area where technology is affording the advantage of efficiency is in supply and IOL processes. Suppleye.com, a new e-commerce company, is targeted at streamlining ophthalmic supply management with its free, Internet-based procurement and inventory management system. “Suppleye.com is the fastest, most efficient way for eyecare surgery centers to replenish and track all of their surgical and medical supplies,” said company founder and president John G. Meek. “Our solution incorporates a barcode scanning application that automates the arduous tasks of replacing and tracking implanted IOLs. We also enable surgery centers to quickly place a single purchase order for their preferred viscoelastics, phaco accessories and other supplies with any number of manufacturers. That consolidated order is billed on one invoice by suppleye.com so the surgery center merely needs to process one payment.”

Mr. Meek, a veteran ophthalmic products sales manager, says suppleye.com supports the relationships between manufacturers and their customers. “The manufacturers’ sales people continue to offer their expertise and services to individual customers, and customers maintain the ability to negotiate pricing directly with the manufacturers’ sales representatives. Suppleye.com strengthens the relationships by basically making it easier, faster and more cost-effective for manufacturers’ customers to replenish their supplies,” added Mr. Meek.

Suppleye.com went live on the Internet in late August, using the address www.suppleye.com. By early next year the company plans to release an expanded version that incorporates comprehensive automated just-in-time ordering, which should reduce inventory carrying costs for surgery centers. “The goal is to give our members and partners a complete supply management solution that eliminates the many inefficiencies and inaccuracies inherent to ophthalmic supply transactions. In doing so, suppleye.com gives eyecare providers and manufacturers vast opportunities to reduce their operating costs,” Mr. Meek said.
