NEW ORLEANS — Wavelight AG introduced a prototype of Concept System 1000, a new 1,000 Hz excimer laser system here it has in development.

The excimer laser system still in the testing phase features a 1,000 Hz laser, which is able to ablate at a rate of 1 second per diopter at an optical zone of 6.5 mm, according to company officials here at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting.

According to Mario Kafke, one of the developers of the new laser, aside from speed, the laser also will feature a 1,000 Hz fully optimized eyetracker and a fully integrated software system, which will incorporate measurement data directly from the server. The system also features apex center tracking technology, which allows quicker and easier apex centering.

The unique features of the 1,000 Hz laser are creating a smoother stromal surface in initial tests, according to Mr. Kafke.
