ERLANGEN, Germany — WaveLight AG intends to dispose of its intraocular surgery business unit, the company announced in a press release.

As part of the disposal of the intraocular surgery business unit resolved by WaveLight AG's executive committee on Dec. 6, WaveLight intends to sell the wholly owned subsidiary WaveLight GmbH and to divest its 30% equity interest in the Dutch company MDP (Medical Device Production) B.V.

Details of the planned disposal of the holdings in the intraocular surgery business unit are currently being negotiated.

WaveLight expects the sale of the equity interests to result in expenses of up to Euro 5 million. The transaction is subject to approval by WaveLight AG's supervisory board, according to the release.

WaveLight had acquired the Berlin-based distribution company Acrimed GmbH, which is now WaveLight GmbH, and its equity interest in MDP B.V. in September 2005 as part of an expansion of its ophthalmological expertise, the release said.
