A Palm OS program containing IOL power calculation formulas that is offered for free on a Russian Web site is “all in error,” according to the four physicians who originally designed the formulas.

The freely downloadable program purports to calculate IOL powers using the Hoffer Q, Haigis, SRK/T, SRK 2, Holladay 2 and Holladay 1 formulas. The program is a copy of the Hoffer Programs for Palm handheld devices with the Haigis, SRK and Holladay formulas added, the physicians who designed the formulas said in a press release.

Wolfgang Haigis, PhD, Kenneth J. Hoffer, MD, Jack Holladay, MD, and Donald Sanders, MD, said in the press release that they all downloaded the program to check the accuracy of the power calculation formulas.

“The Haigis, Hoffer Q, SRK/T and Holladay … formulas are all in error in this [Russian] program. They do not calculate the correct IOL powers,” the physicians said in the release.
