SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Revenues topped $165 million for Visx in 2004, the company stated in a press release. License revenue, a key component of the company’s growth, grew 34% in 2004 over 2003 levels, the company added.
Fourth quarter revenues increased 6% to $40.4 million from the same quarter in 2003. Net income figures were skewed because of expenses related to the company’s impending merger with Advanced Medical Optics, announced in December, according to the press release.
The company is waiting for Food and Drug Administration approval for its iris recognition technology. Approval is expected during the first quarter of 2005, said Liz Davila, chairman and chief executive officer of Visx. The company was granted FDA premarket approval for hyperopia with its CustomVue laser platform late last year, and Ms. Davila said that approval is “contributing to a strong start in 2005.”
“In January, our conversion to CustomVue procedures increased, and worldwide license revenue was up more than 20% over last January,” she said in the release.
Visx and AMO expect to complete the merger some time this quarter.
