SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Visx revenue for the second quarter of 2002 is lower than the comparable period last year, but on par with the first quarter of this year, according to the company’s second quarter 2002 financial results, released yesterday.

Revenue for the second quarter of 2002 was $36.6 million compared with $48.3 million for the comparable period of the prior year. Net income was $5.9 million, compared with a net loss of $10.7 million in the comparable period in 2001. Company financial statements indicate the loss from 2001 resulted from a $37.8 million litigation settlement.

“The current trend in consumer confidence — a primary driver of laser vision correction procedures — is not favorable,” said Liz Davila, chairman and chief executive officer of Visx. “Consequently, we are forecasting a decline in revenue and profits for the second half of 2002.”
