Vistakon to discontinue Acuvue Toric contact lens brand

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Vistakon plans to discontinue its Acuvue Toric contact lens brand in the United States, and beginning January 2008, it will provide the lenses only while remaining supplies last, the company announced in a press release.

The company made the decision due to strong sales of its Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism brand of contact lenses, which are the most widely prescribed toric contact lens, the release said.

To help patients transition to using Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism, Vistakon, a division of Johnson & Johnson, will offer a $75 rebate after patients receive an eye examination and purchase a 1-year supply of the lenses, according to the release.
