Video symposium to highlight surgical advances at OSN New York
OSN New York 2008 will showcase a new interactive event: the Surgical Technique and Technology Video Symposium.
Physicians are encouraged to submit an interesting or problematic case and present it to an expert panel. Cases should involve unusual or unknown surgical problems.
"If they have a difficult case that they haven't yet treated and that they're looking for advice on, a surgeon could present that case and have discussion among the six or seven panelists," OSN Chief Medical Editor Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, told Ocular Surgery News.
Video submissions, along with 200-word descriptions, are being accepted by the program committee for possible inclusion in the symposium.
Dr. Lindstrom will moderate the symposium and will be joined by a panel of experts: OSN Refractive Surgery Section Member Marguerite B. McDonald, MD; OSN Glaucoma Section Editor Thomas W. Samuelson, MD; OSN Cataract Surgery Section Editor Rosa Braga-Mele, MD, FRCSC; OSN Glaucoma Section Member Ike K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC; and OSN Cornea/External Disease Section Editor Eric D. Donnenfeld, MD.
The panel members will select their video favorites to be presented, and the physicians whose videos are selected will be invited to the meeting.
Panel members will discuss the significance of the new cataract, refractive or glaucoma surgery technology showcased in each video and will also fill in any remaining time with cases of their own. Those whose videos are accepted will join the panel.
After the event, accepted videos will be featured in an issue of OSN and will be available at OSNSuperSite.com through the video library.
Submission criteria can be found at www.osnny.com/video/default.asp. Video submissions are due by Aug. 22. The symposium will take place from 3:15 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.
