MONROVIA, Calif. — STAAR Surgical has announced that two of its aspheric IOLs have received new technology IOL designation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the company announced in a press release.

The Afinity Collamer aspheric single-piece foldable IOL, model CC4204A, can be delivered through a 2.2-mm incision using the STAAR nanoPOINT injector system. The Elastimide silicone aspheric foldable IOL, model AQ2015A, is available immediately for use with conventional injectors and will also be packaged in STAAR's preloaded injector system, according to the release.

With the NTIOL designation, Medicare will now provide an additional $50 reimbursement per lens that is implanted in a Medicare beneficiary in an ASC.

The enhanced reimbursement is effective from July 17 until Feb. 26, 2011.
