Trabeculectomy with MMC lowered IOP in patients with secondary glaucoma from Behçet's disease
Most eyes treated with trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C for secondary glaucoma from Behçet's disease achieved an IOP of 20 mm Hg or below at 1 year postop, a study found.
Ufuk Elgin, MD, and colleagues reviewed outcomes of 23 eyes of 13 patients that underwent the procedure. Their results are published in the January issue of the Journal of Glaucoma.
At baseline, mean IOP was 30.9 mm Hg with a mean 3.3 glaucoma medications. By 6 months postop, mean IOP had dropped to 16.8 mm Hg with a mean 1.7 medications. At 1 year follow-up, mean IOP was 18.5 mm Hg with a mean 2.6 glaucoma medications.
At 1 year, 82.6% of eyes had achieved an IOP of 20 mm Hg or below, which was the study's definition of success.
