ORLANDO, Fla. — Topcon has agreed to make an equity investment in LensAR, according to a joint press release. The companies announced long-term strategic cooperation for the purpose of marketing the LensAR laser system in Europe at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting in September.

"This is a very exciting opportunity for Topcon to demonstrate our commitment to technologies that will have a positive and significant impact on enhancing patient outcomes," Eric Franken, managing director of Topcon, said in the release. "This latest announcement shows our commitment and confidence in the LensAR Laser System to expand our offering to our partner, the ophthalmic surgeon, and help us continue to combine our quality diagnostics with the newest surgical technologies."

After the announcement of the companies' long-term strategic cooperation, a number of deposits were taken toward delivery of the LensAR laser system in Europe once it is made available via Topcon, according to the release.

"We are very pleased at the reception we received at the recent ESCRS by the Topcon organization as well as the entire medical community. This enthusiastic response and interest in LensAR is a strong endorsement of our decision to join forces with such a quality strategic partner," Randy Frey, president and CEO of LensAR, said in the release.
