Tonometer receives clearance from FDA
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. Canon's new lightweight, non-contact tonometer is commercially available after having received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to a news release.
In full auto mode, the TX-20 Full Auto Tonometer can automatically align itself and measure IOP in both of the patient's eyes, the release said.
"We are excited to bring the new TX-20 tonometer to the forefront of the U.S. market to help health care professionals diagnose and monitor eye disorders, such as glaucoma," Tsuneo Imai, senior director and general manager, Medical Systems Division, Canon U.S.A, said in the release.
The tonometer features a softer puff of air to aid in patient comfort.
Furthermore, the tonometer displays a snapshot of the patient's eye when a reading cannot be made, allowing the operator to see what caused the problem, such as an eyelid or eyelash, and quickly correct it, according to the company website.
