PARIS — Two countries in South America and one in North Africa have become member societies of the World Glaucoma Association in the past 2 years, according to a presenter here.
With the addition of Bolivia, Venezuela and Algeria, the World Glaucoma Association now includes 79 member societies.
"It's absolutely phenomenal that in a decade of time, we could obtain this level of membership and coverage of these member societies throughout our globe," Tarek Shaarawy, MD, MSc, said at the World Glaucoma Congress. "We are very happy and proud to welcome to the umbrella of the World Glaucoma Association three new members."
The association, which began in 2001, meets every 2 years.
"You can see that ... almost all continents are covered and Africa is actually getting filled up quite rapidly now," Dr. Shaarawy said while displaying a map of the world with member glaucoma societies highlighted.
