TearLab Osmolarity System receives Medical Design Excellence Award

SAN DIEGO — The TearLab Osmolarity System has received a 2009 Medical Design Excellence Award, according to a press release from TearLab Corporation, the manufacturer of the device.

Staged by Canon Communications, the Medical Design Excellence Awards recognize contributions and innovations for the design and engineering of medical products, the release said. All entries received a comprehensive review by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine and diagnostics.

"We are honored to be recognized by the MDEA judges," Eric Donsky, TearLab's chief executive officer, said in the release. "Receiving the prestigious Medical Design Excellence Award is a validation that our TearLab technology represents a breakthrough in the development of innovative, point-of-care diagnostic products."
