MONROVIA, Calif. — STARR Surgical expects second quarter 2006 revenue to total approximately $14.6 million, a 9.4% sequential increase over the first quarter 2006 revenue of $13.3 million, according to a press release.

The company expects worldwide second quarter sales of its Visian ICL to increase approximately 39.4% over the first quarter, totaling approximately $3.3 million. U.S. sales of the lens are expected to reach approximately $1.2 million, up from $680,000 in the first quarter of 2006, the release said.

The company attributed the increase to the recent U.S. approval of the lens for treating myopia, as well as increasing worldwide demand. As of July 11, STARR had completed proctoring for the lens with 175 surgeons. It expects to provide further update on its Visian ICL lens launch in the U.S. when it reports final second quarter results in August.
