STAAR Surgical posts 19% revenue increase in second quarter

MONROVIA, Calif. — STAAR Surgical posted a revenue growth of 19% to $16.3 million for the second quarter, an improvement of $2.6 million over last year’s numbers, according to a company press release.

The second-quarter report marks the first time STAAR has posted consecutive quarters of profitability since 1999.

Visian ICL sales were $8.3 million, up 41% from last year.

Second-quarter IOL sales increased 1% to $7.1 million, up from $7 million in last year’s second quarter, according to the release.

Operating expenses totaled $9.7 million, a 2% increase over last year’s $9.5 million.

Net income was $862,000, or $0.02 per share, compared with last year’s net loss of $1.6 million, or $0.05 per share.
