STAAR Surgical gains Japanese regulatory approval for preloaded IOL injector system
MONROVIA, Calif. STAAR Surgical has received Japanese regulatory approval for its KS-Ni preloaded silicone IOL injector system, the company announced.
The device will allow surgeons to deliver STAAR Japan's blue-blocker silicone IOL through a 2.6-mm incision to reduce astigmatism and allow for faster healing. The KS-Ni preloaded system features one-third fewer components and can reduce the number of steps in the IOL delivery process, the release said.
"The approval of the KS-Ni preloaded IOL injector continues to highlight the rapid-fire launch of products that leverage STAAR Japan's expertise in the area of preloaded delivery systems for foldable IOLs," Barry G. Caldwell, president and chief executive officer of STAAR Surgical, said in the release. "During the past week, STAAR has received three different product regulatory approvals in the U.S., Europe and now Japan, which illustrates the results of our continuous improvement efforts by our quality and regulatory teams."
STAAR is considering expanding the system to other key markets, the release said.
