MONROVIA, Calif. — STAAR Surgical's Visian Afinity Collamer Aspheric foldable IOL has received new technology IOL designation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the company announced in a press release. STAAR IOL model CQ2015A demonstrated efficacy in reducing spherical aberrations, improving visual acuity and increasing contrast sensitivity, according to the release.

With the new technology IOL designation, Medicare will now reimburse an additional $50 for each lens that is implanted in a Medicare patient in an ASC.

The new technology IOL subset for reduced spherical aberrations will activate the enhanced reimbursement, which goes into effect today and remains effective until Feb. 26, 2011, according to the release.
