Solx holds training course for new glaucoma treatment system

A glaucoma treatment system that combines a shunt device with a Ti:sapphire laser was the subject of a multinational training course held recently in Madrid, Spain.

According to a press release from Solx, the DeepLight Glaucoma Treatment System combines the DeepLight Titanium Sapphire Laser with the DeepLight Photo Modulated Gold Shunt to provide physicians with a new approach to reducing IOP.

The system can be used in any combination — the laser alone, the laser with the shunt or the shunt alone — to reach the target IOP, according to the press release.

Fifty patients around the world have already been treated with the system, and the multinational training session was held in Madrid last month to increase the use of the treatment. Surgeons from six nations attended the course, according to Solx.

The technology invented by Solx was supported by the Boston University Photonics Center and its Business Accelerator Program, the release said.
