WAILEA, Hawaii — Robert M. Sinskey, MD, was honored here as the recipient of the Philip M. Corboy, MD, 2006 Memorial Award.
Dr. Sinskey, a pioneer in the development of posterior chamber IOLs, is now a vineyard owner in Napa Valley, Calif. In accepting the Corboy award, Dr. Sinskey related some of his experiences as a vineyard owner to the audience here at the Hawaiian Eye meeting.
Dr. Sinskey said his interest in wine began when he developed a digestive illness in the 1970s and was told by physicians that he could no longer consume liquor and spirits. In 1980, he became a partner in the Acacia winery, which is now Robert Sinskey Vineyards.
He said the vineyard, which started with only 11 acres, now has 168 acres and produces nine varieties of wine. He said this organic vineyard’s goal is “to create a balanced farm environment by employing an ecologically sound, self-supporting farm system.”
Dr. Sinskey said the vineyard is currently the second-largest organic vineyard in Napa Valley.
