JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A silicone hydrogel daily wear contact lens for people with astigmatism is now available in the United States, according to marketer Vistakon.

The Acuvue Advance uses a stabilization technology to “balance the lens in place while the eye is open and quickly realign the lens if it rotates out of position,” according to a press release from Vistakon. The lenses also use a proprietary technology that combines an oxygen-rich material with a moisture-rich wetting agent, Vistakon said in the release.

Stability, comfort and quality of vision were tested in a 2-week randomized trial in 435 people between the ages of 18 and 39 who were already contact lens wearers and had been diagnosed with astigmatism. Study lenses were worn for an average of 12 to 13 hours per day.

The lens is indicated for daily wear vision correction.

Vistakon is a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc.
